agreed that this is stomach turning. not the first time i've heard of negligent drivers getting probation for killing a cyclist. how do you get legislation on the books? petition the legislators?

for this very reason i now ride with a rear view mirror. yeah, the cool kids snicker when i ride by, but i'm hoping i'll be able to see it coming and bail out of the way.

Well the defendant plead to the lane change charge but as the article says, the prosecutor declined to go for a more serious charge such as criminally negligent homicide/manslaughter. The prosecutor ought to lose her job.

Why is it again, that each time some dozing driver nearly pegs me, that I'm not supposed to follow them up to the next streetlight, haul them out of the car, and stomp their inattentive @ss into a puddle? Homicide is no less awful when it is committed out of gross negligence, than when it is committed out of malice. And the rider is no less dead.

Wow. This is the lightest sentence I have ever seen.

I believe that if you avoid an accident like this due to outstanding skills as a cyclist you should still be able to prosecute the negligent slacker behind the wheel.

Although I wholehertedly support Jim's comments above, in addition to stomping them into a puddle, I would like to be legally empowered to take their drivers license, shred it, and stuff it down their throat.
