A study in London (
reported here) suggests what I've often suspected, that it can be safer for a rider to "run" a red light than to hang out in the intersection. Adding even more controversy, the study found that women cyclists could be in more danger because they were less likey to disobey lights and tended to hub the curb.
“Women may be overrepresented in [collisions with trucks] because they are less likely than men to disobey red lights.”
Apparently, by running red lights, men are less likely to be caught in a truck driver’s
blind spot.
